UB Theatre & Dance presents
Thornton Wilder’s
OUR TOWN
April 14-17, 2010 at 8:00pm
April 18, 2010 at 2:00pm
"It whispers to us the urgent necessity of living in the here and now." - Christopher Isherwood, The New York Times, 2008
Buffalo, NY – UB Theatre & Dance will present Thornton Wilder’s classic Pulitzer Prize-winning play OUR TOWN from Wednesday, April 14 through Sunday April 18, 2010. Performance times are Wednesday through Saturday at 8PM and Sunday at 2PM in the Drama Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo, North Campus.
For generations, OUR TOWN has been one of the most performed and beloved plays in America, and one of the most delightful and moving plays of the modern era. Set in the quintessential New England town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, OUR TOWN traces the lives of two young lovers, Emily and George, from childhood to marriage to full maturity, capturing the great joys and inevitable sorrows of human life. Guiding us through this journey is the Stage Manager, a mysterious figure who seems to know the ending at the beginning, and may even provide a glimpse of the secret bittersweet meaning behind our common lives.
OUR TOWN won the Pulitzer Prize in 1938 in the midst of the Great Depression, and the 2008 New York production was on every critic's list of the top 10 productions of the year. In difficult times, perhaps we need a gentle reminder of the importance of the little things in life. Please join us for the American classic OUR TOWN, directed by Jerry Finnegan.
Tickets for OUR TOWN are $18 for the general public and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the Center Box Office (Mon.-Fri. 10am-6pm) and all Ticketmaster locations including ticketmaster.com. To charge tickets call 1-800-745-3000, in Canada 1-416-870-8000. For more information, call 716-645-2787. Students (of any school) must present valid student ID at the Center Box Office to receive discount.
